Ain’t no sunshine
Over the Easter long weekend, our son and his partner both had their birthdays (Happy Birthday Chloe and Cal), and I started a minor house renovation / maintenance job, replacing some weatherboards. Absolutely riveting stuff, and I’m sure you’re wondering where this is going.
This involved getting a couple of coats of primer on the new boards, so out in the shed, some pleasant music playing, me and a paintbrush.
In between coats, I tinkered with some model railway stuff I’m working on, and received a few photos and videos from friends who were up in Canberra to travel on The Picnic Train behind R 766.
Great photos, and beautiful blue skies, really nice!
Another friend I’d sent some train running info also sent me a message thanking me, and hoping the weather was going to be nice on Monday for one of the trains we’d been discussing (it wasn’t).
This got me thinking while I was putting another coat of paint on, what weather do I prefer, and, if the sun isn’t out, is that a bother?
A few boards in, I decided that while nice soft Autumn light is great to photograph in, some of my favourite photos have been taken in gloomy light, or abject darkness!
So, I’ve decided to share a few photos with you in less than sunny skies, I’m interested to know what you think of them.
If you’re wondering what I was listening to, Depeche Mode and New Order featured heavily.

Coming out of the fog at Colmar, this train, with us on it will be heading to Strasbourg in Eastern France.
A foggy evening in Strasbourg, great atmosphere for the Christmas markets!
Let me know in the comments, do you like sunny, well lit photos, or more muted tones with some atmosphere?
