Falcons Lookout
This shot had been one I’d been thinking about trying for years, but wasn’t actually sure if it was achievable.
The Melbourne to Ballarat railway has a very steep climb out of Bacchus Marsh, including this rather spectacular section through the Werribee Gorge State Park, where the line crosses Ironbark Gully, some four km from my vantage point.
What convinced me it could be done was seeing a train crossing the bridge one afternoon on the way back from Ballarat, it fitted into the scene nicely, so with a deep breath, I took the plunge and bought a new lens with this shot specifically in mind, the day before this photo was taken. It will get a lot more use, but for the moment, I’m still referring to this as the $1500 dollar shot!
Luckily, you can have it on your wall to admire for a lot less.
