Early mornings in Central Victoria in August can be cold, freezing in fact. Still chilly air, and a pair of steam locomotives gently simmering in the pre dawn light make the camping out overnight, and early morning rise to capture the scene worth every bit of it. To be fair, I do love camping out with a good fire and friends.
The Goldfields Railway is my favourite tourist railway in Victoria, a closed branchline bought back to life by a group of talented and enthusiastic volunteers, and regularly features some of the smaller mainline preserved engines, as was the case on this occasion.
